The Bloom Education Fund

Build Leaders, Open Opportunities, Make Impacts

About Bloom

The Bloom Education Fund (Bloom) is a charity founded in 2016 by Ms. Jacqueline Shen that is registered in the US and Shanghai. 'BLOOM' is an acronym of the slogan 'Build Leaders, Open Opportunities, Make an Impact'.

Bloom provides opportunities for the public to participate in all kinds of charitable programs supporting the holistic education of young people around the world, and is especially committed to providing support to outstanding young people in under-resourced areas. These programs include scholarships, online tutoring, and cultural exchanges. Bloom aims to make the world a more caring place, letting donors not only give help, but also gain achievements and growth themselves.

The Bloom Summer Camps are week-long camps held in boarding schools in under-resourced regions in China. In our Summer Camps, student volunteers are fully immersed into the environment, engaging in active communication and interaction with the local  students and teachers. Volunteers have the option to teach English along with a subject of their choice (could literally be anything!) to a class of 5-10 students. At the same time, through different events such as cultural exchanges, local home visits, and movie nights, volunteers gain first-hand experience of the local culture of ethnic minorities. The Bloom Summer Camps have been successfully for 8 years, taking place in 6 locations in 2024.

The Bloom Youth Committee (founded in 2017 as the Bloom Admin Team) is a student-led team that manages Bloom's online tutoring program (the Bloom Outreach Program), which involves over 200 underprivelidged students across China. Each week, the program's 60+ tutors deliver hour-long English lessons to these students, as well as running a range of societies which these students can join. The Youth Committee currently comprises of 36 volunteer students from 6 countries, and are organised in 5 departments: community development, project management, human resources, lesson planning, and journalism.

The 'Let Dreams Sail' scholarship provides one-to-one assistance to outstanding yet under-resourced students. The programme connects individual donors to students, allowing the donations to directly fund the students' living expenses and tuition, and at the same time, the students are also provided with resources from Bloom's other projects. Many rural students have benefited greatly from this programme,  with some being offered full scholarships from internationally-renowned IB high school UWC. The assisted students stay in frequent contact with their donor families and develop a close relationship with them.
